Here at Cerris Homes, we know moving into a new home can be stressful. It feels like there’s a never-ending list of things to do before you’re even settled into your beautiful new home. That’s why we’ve put together an easy to follow checklist of things you should do when you’re moving into your home to make things as smooth as possible.
Get Your Utilities Sorted
Nobody likes a cold house with no internet, so make sure you’ve set up your utility bills ready to go for when you move in. Most companies that cover energy, insurance and even broadband can transfer to new addresses if you let them know you’ll be moving. You could even use this opportunity to do a price comparison on your home and get a better deal for your new place.
Update The Council
The place that needs to know about your move the most is the local council. Covering everything from registering to vote to getting your bins collected, make sure you let the local authorities know that you’re now living in the property.
Update everyone else!
Moving to a new home means a new address. Make sure you not only update your friends and family, but let places like your bank, insurance company and any other subscriptions you have know that you’ve moved. You’ll also need to update your drivers license through the DVLA.
Inspect the home
When you buy a new build home there can be hairline cracks in the plaster, this is cause when the plaster is drying and then there can be some shrinkage which cause the cracks, but make sure you give us a call and we’ll get it sorted for you.
You’re in your new home, so make the most of it. You’ll be arranging the house to look more familiar and comfortable to you, so enjoy the time it takes to put it together. Better still, recruit your friends and family to help – it’ll be done in half the time.
